Ramya Chamalie Jirasinghe

Ramya Chamalie Jirasinghe (1971) is a woman poet from Sri Lanka. Her poetry focuses on the individual in conflict with the outer world and the effect of outer conflict on the inner-self. Her poetry has won the State Youth Award in 1993, the English Writers' Cooperative Prize for Poetry in 1998, and her manuscript of poetry was shortlisted for the Gratiaen Prize of 1998 and of 2008, the foremost literary prize in Sri Lanka, established by Michael Ondaatje. Jirasinghe has a Master of Arts degree in Comparative Literature from the School of Oriental and African Studies of the University of London. She lives in Colombo with her daughter.
