Idris Caffery
A Shortage Of Daffodils

Spring but so few daffodils
this year in my garden
and I thought they would always came -
golden spears multiplying in the sun.

Such a beautiful day
but so much missing
as if the present is taunting me
with the losses of the past.

I shall buy some more,
thousands more –

they shall not leave again.
