Ailsa Black was born in Ballymoney and brought up in Dumfries and Galloway. She studied graphics and illustration at Grays School of Art in Aberdeen. .
After college she moved to Edinburgh where she spent the next ten years working both in the voluntary sector and also as a freelance arts worker with a variety of community groups. In 2000 she returned to Dumfries and Galloway where she now lives combining voluntary sector work with freelance illustration work.
Recent illustration commissions include The Scottish Executive, Home Plus Scotland magazine, Baby and You magazine, Dumfries and Galloway Health Board and Markings magazine.
