Matt Roberts
He Pretends

Sat with his elegant lady,
in the Italian style café,
sipping expensive coffee.
.....He pretends.

Discussing books and cars,
describing past adventures
and sitting in a world of men,
.....He pretends.

‘Look at you now’, his old friends say.
‘All sophisticated in your razor clothes.’
He stands, spreads drinks, and speeches around.
.....He pretends.
